CHRIS CARR / SPEAKER

Chris Carr was born and raised in rural Pilot Knob, Missouri. Carr, the youngest of 10 children, had a standout high school basketball career. Chris's dedication to reaching his goals was evident at a young age, his tremendous work ethic and outgoing personality, have helped him over achieve at every level of play in basketball, life and business.

After his high school career in Missouri, Chris received a full athletic scholarship to play basketball for Southern Illinois University (SIU) in Carbondale, IL. This was an amazing accomplishment at the time, as no person from his small town of 722 people had ever received a scholarship to play Division 1 basketball. At SIU, Carr led his team to three consecutive NCAA tournament appearances. Following his junior season he was named both the Missouri Valley Conference MVP and the Missouri Conference Tournament MVP.

In 1995, Chris played in his first NBA game. Though faced with many hardships of being a second round draft pick, he not only worked himself into an opening day roster spot, but also managed to start 10 games as a rookie for the Phoenix Suns.

Chris moved on and played for the Minnesota Timberwolves, New Jersey Nets, Chicago Bulls and the Boston Celtics, enjoying a 9-year professional career. Chris is very proud to have competed against such NBA greats as Charles Barkley, A.C. Green, Shaquille O'Neal and former Timberwolves superstar Kevin Garnett! He is also proud to call them his friends.

Since he left the NBA Chris has expanded on his passion for teaching basketball and children with his formation of 43 Hoops, in Minneapolis/ St. Paul. With 43 Hoops he gets an opportunity to not only teach children and teenagers the sport he loves, but also shares his off the court life experiences. All of which helps to mold these up and coming kids into not only competitive athletes…but hard working adults.

Chris has always spoken these words The most positive thing about being successful is that you know how hard you have to work to get there. Success comes in many different ways. But does not come overnight. The most important thing is that YOU work hard, respect yourself, respect others - and keep a positive attitude - then you become successful!

Although basketball is still a large part of his everyday life, Chris enjoys mentoring and sharing his life experiences with young people, traveling and most importantly, spending quality time with his wife Tanya and their five children.
